Papers, 1895-1990.

Papers, ca. 1923-1990, include correspondence, a videotape, a diploma, photographs, and printed materials that relate to the life of Albertine M. Campbell and other family members. The correspondence subgroup, 1958-1990 and n.d., consists of a few letters and greeting cards from friends and relatives. The education subgroup chiefly consists of printed material concerning Alabama State University such as a 1928 yearbook. Commencement programs from Tuskegee University and the University of Kansas as well as a Fisk University newspaper and alumni association material can also be found in the education subgroup. The organizations subgroup contains printed material reflecting Mrs. Campbell's involvement in social, civic, and religious organizationse. Reports, minutes, membership directories, form letters, receipts, bylaws, and newsletters are arranged alphabetically by organization. Of particular interest are the Alabama Council on Human Rights newsletter from 1955 and the Montgomery Improvement Association folder. The United Church Women of Montgomery material, chiefly clippings, minutes, and membership lists, was originally housed in a scrapbook consisting of plastic sleeves and construction paper. Since the material was stacked on top of one another inside each sleeve and not glued down, the items were removed from the scrapbook to improve access to the material. Original order, which was roughly chronological, was maintained. The miscellaneous subgroup consists of a variety of material including a videotape, unlabelled photographs, clippings, guest books, U.S. Commission on Civil Rights reports from 1967, and a book by Langston Hughes, The Negro Mother. The videotape, made in 1990, is an interview with Mrs. Campbell by Dr. Elaine Smith. There is also a 1923 diploma from the State Normal School for Edgar James Moore.
