The Alabama Commission on Higher Education is responsible for promoting the highest quality collegiate and university educational system for the people of the state. This series, administrative records of the Commissioner of Higher Education, 1968-1989, consists of correspondence between members of the commission, and between the commission and presidents and administrators of colleges and universities; reports from institutions on the number of graduate and undergraduate degrees awarded and the fields therein; cost control implementation progress reports; correspondence and reports on Basic Educational Opportunity Grants and the Guaranteed Student Loan Program; and drafts and final copies of Alabama's annual Master Plan for Higher Education. Also included are copies of bills, resolutions and legislation on issues affecting higher education; travel vouchers; press releases; speeches; memoranda; minutes of commission meetings; newspaper clippings; scrapbooks; conference materials; and personal files of Commissioners Dr. Clanton W. Williams, John F. Porter and Joseph T. Sutton.
