Photograph collection, (ca.1948-1953).

This collection contains photographs taken for the Ala. State Planning Board between 1948 and 1953. The State Planning Board was authorized to make and adopt official master plans for the development of the state, to advise and cooperate with local governments and boards on developments, and to compile and distribute literature as to the facilities, advantages, and attractions of the state. The 781 photographs in this collection were taken by the Board for inclusion in promotional pamphlets for Ala. cities. Most of the photographs are aerial views of cities and the surrounding countryside. Many of the prints have available industrial sites outlined on them along with total acreage at the site. Some cities have ground level photographs of businesses, industries, public and private buildings, residences, and recreational areas. The fifty-two cities represented are all smaller Ala. communities. The photographs document the geography of the areas surrounding the cities, the potential development areas of the state, and the industrial development in the smaller cities of Ala., ca.1950. The photographs are eight by ten inches and three by four and one-half inches. A few negatives are included. Twelve known photography services were involved in processing the prints.
