Mobile County Training School photographs, 1920-1921.

This collection consists of three large cabinet card photographs depicting students of the Mobile County Training School. One photo shows the graduating class of 1921 with the principal, I.J. Whitley, and lists their names and what appears to be their new occupations and addresses. Another photo depicts the summer school physical education class at work. The third photograph shows the participants in the 1920 summer school play sitting in front of a building.

The Mobile County Training School was a secondary school for African Americans in Plateau, Ala. Prior to 1915, the Mobile County Training School was known as Plateau Normal and Industrial Institute. In addition to academic courses such as history, literature, and mathematics, the school taught cooking, sewing, blacksmithing, agriculture, and other industrial sciences.
