Personal correspondence (1882-1894), information on the Lux estate, biographical sketches of Lux family members and associates, and Lux genealogical material, most of which appears to have been compiled by Charles Lux Lewis, grandnephew of Miranda Lux. Most of the original, handwritten correspondence is accompanied by annotated, typed transcriptions by Lewis. Correspondence consists of three letters from Miranda's husband, Charles Lux, to Azro N. Lewis, husband of Lux's niece, Miranda Lewis; four letters from Miranda Lux to Azro Lewis; and three brief letters from Miranda Lux to Miranda Lewis. Letters from Charles Lux to Azro Lewis contain family news, anecdotes, and discussion of the ranching business; letters from Miranda Lux to Azro Lewis discuss friends and relatives, illnesses, and travel arrangements. Includes one letter (1893) from Sarah B. Cooper, of the Golden Gate Kindergarten Association, to E.G. Wait, Secretary of State in Sacramento, recommending Mr. Merrill, an educator, to a position in a school in Preston, Calif. Information on the Lux estate includes a typed list of legatees, information on the Miller & Lux corporation, and typed copies of newspaper articles from the San Francisco Call (1897) and San Francisco Chronicle (1904). Other papers include Miranda Lux's marriage certificate (1857), and a typed copy of her will (1894).
