Letter to Andrew Adams. Pierce discusses General Philip Schuyler's trip to Congress to defend himself against their charges of incompetence. Phelps also discusses a brief skirmish between a party of Indians led by a white man and a party of 25 Americans. The party of Americans was traveling from Fort Ticonderoga and was surprised. 4 men were killed, 5 escaped and 16 were taken prisoner. The Americans were largely unprepared as few had arms or ammunition. Phelps also discusses the increasing frequency of hostile Indian attacks on Americans.
