Governor's mansion fund expenditure files, 1955-1979.

Alabama Act No. 489 of 1951 authorized the creation of the mansion fund to pay all expenses incident to the operation and maintenance of the official residence of the governor including all provisions, servants, upkeep and other items, and also all expenses for public or official memorials, entertainment, travel and other items incident to this office or authorized by the governor, excluding any personal household expenses of the governor or his immediate family. This series consists of records documenting the expenditure of funds from the mansion funds. Typical records in this series include warrants, invoices and bills, copies of letters from the governor authorizing the expenditure of funds, and typed lists for each month detailing expenditures. information in these files includes date, amount of expenditure, reason for expenditure, company or individual being paid, beginning and ending monthly balance, total allotment, and total monthly disbursements. These records were created during the administrations of Governors James E. Folsom (1955-1959), George Corley Wallace (1963-1967, and 1971-1979), Lurleen Wallace (1967-1968), and Albert P. Brewer (1968-1971).
