Frank Daniel Gilroy was an American author and filmmaker, best known for the prize-winning play, The Subject Was Roses. Born in The Bronx, New York, Gilroy joined the Army out of high school and served two and one-half years as a World War II infantryman before graduating from Harvard and studying at Yale.
