The Dallas County political scrapbook contains news clippings about political issues and contests in Alabama during the late 19th century. An exchange of letters between Edmund Pettus and Dallas County Probate Judge Perry G. Wood about the Alabama gubernatorial election of 1892 is also included, as well as a list of names of possible election poll watchers from Dallas County. Several miscellaneous notes and letters from the 1880s to the 1890s are also included in the scrapbook.

Thomas Goode Jones was born on 1844 Nov. 26 at Macon, Ga. He was educated by tutors, Mongomery, Ala. schools, the schools of Dr. Charles Minor and Gesner Harrison in Virginia, and the Virginia Military Institute. Within months of joining the Confederate Army he rose to the rank of major. Following the war, he served as captain of the Montgomery Greys, Co. A., Second Regiment, Ala.
