Thanks Mr. Verplanck for a newspaper article which he sent to Biddle and for the support he has lent the bank. Biddle also reaffirms his stance of separating the Bank of the United States from any party affiliation.

In 1816, the Bank of the United States was rechartered, the first charter having expired in 1811, in an attempt to stabilize the national currency. Within the first three years, the bank was nearly ruined due to mismanagement. Langdon Cheves was elected president of its board of directors in 1819 and restored the bank's credit.
