Account book, 1854-1867.

Records the carpentry activities of George and Charles Brownell and their associates. Entries, under the names of customers, list the number of hours or days of labor, the task performed, and the cost of materials needed to complete the job. The Brownells did a variety of work on people's houses and barns, including building closets, installing windows, carting boards and frames, hanging blinds, framing, laying floors, shingling, and making tables and cupboards. They use such material as nails, boards of several different woods, catches and hinges, and sandpaper. Many of the entries indicate that the work was done by contract.
