The Hardenbergh family papers are primarily the papers of Isaac Hardenbergh and his son Lewis, comprised for the most part of land deeds and maps of Great Lot 50, Hardenbergh Patent, Roxbury, Delaware County; town records of Roxbury; and Lewis Hardenbergh's military records for the 174th Regiment, 25th Brigade, 6th Division, New York State Militia.

At least seven of the signers who were paid here may be found in Thomas L. Cook's Palmyra and Vicinity as prominent citizens (Palmyra, 1930; see index). Isaac Hardenbergh (1755-1822) was a merchant who resided in Ulster County, New York until 1791 when he removed to Roxbury, Delaware County, New York establishing the first store, as well as a saw mill and grist mill. He had inherited much of eastern Delaware County including Great Lot 50 of the Hardenbergh Patent (Roxbury) granted in 1708 to Johannes Hardenbergh and others with additional lands granted in 1754.
