The additions to the A. Starker Leopold Papers represent Leopold's professional and research activities occupying his attention the 1960s and 1970s (and, to a lesser extent, beyond that time period). Documents Leopold's involvement in professional organizations such as the Nature Conservancy, the National Academy of Sciences, the Mzuri Safari Foundation, and the Wildlife Society in correspondence, meeting minutes, and other materials. Extensive correspondence records Leopold's work on collection development for the Bohemian Grove Museum, as well as his role organizing, and participating in, an annual speakers' series at the museum. Substantial documentation, in the form of correspondence, reports, and other materials, is also present for Leopold's work as a consultant on a project to dam the Susitna River in Alaska. This series additionally includes correspondence and other documents relating to various honors awarded to Leopold, Leopold's feedback on colleagues' articles, and talks given by Leopold. A small amount of material, primarily correspondence and invoices, records the founding of the Leopold Library at UC Berkeley. Consists primarily of drafts and correspondence for Leopold's writing projects from the 1940s to the early 1980s. Published works represented include The California Quail (1977) and North American Game Birds and Mammals (1982). In addition, this series includes extensive materials for two unpublished textbooks on which Leopold was a collaborator: Wildlife Ecology (1940s) and Wildlife Populations (1960s); the latter appears to be based a course Leopold taught at UC Berkeley. Contains correspondence and reports for various research endeavors in which Leopold participated. Topics with substantial representation include botany in Mexico and a quail study for the Inter-America Wildlife Foundation. For both these projects, it appears that field study was carried out primarily by other researchers, with Leopold in a supervisory role. Includes material on Leopold's private activities. His avid pursuit of hunting and fishing, and involvement with several relevant clubs, is recorded in correspondence. A small amount of correspondence and other documents relate to A.S. Leopold's father, Aldo Leopold, including the founding and maintenance of the Aldo Leopold Reserve. This series also includes course notes from Leopold's graduate studies at Yale and UC Berkeley in 1937-1939.
