A negative photocopy, typed transcript, and newspaper copy of the memoirs of a Caledonia (Minn.) pioneer. Topics include the experiences of Stewart's family from their arrival on the Minnesota frontier (1853) through the Dakota Conflict (1862); his military service, in the aftermath of the conflict, with Company G of the 1st Regiment of Mounted Rangers (1862-1863); and his brief reenlistment (1865) with the 23rd Illinois Veteran Infantry which arrived in Richmond (Va.) shortly after the collapse of the Confederacy.

First learned to ski in 1938. Joined the Army, became an officer, and was assigned to several locations, including Camp Hale and Camp Swift. Served at Kiska and in Italy. Awarded a Bronze Star for his service at Mt. Belvedere, and a Silver Star for his service at S. Benedetto Po. Principal unit was the Headquarters Company, 87th Mountain Infantry Regiment.
