Letters to George F. Bowman : ALS, 1865-1868.

Four letters from officials at the New York office of the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, Bowman's employer. The first letter (2 p.), dated Oct. 2, 1865 and written by F.W.G. Bellows, Vice President, orders Bowman to report to Acapulco. The second letter (2 leaves), dated June 1, 1867 and written by Allan McLane to Bowman in Acapulco, orders him to report for duty in San Francisco. The third and fourth letters are both written by Richard B. Irwin. The third letter (5 leaves), dated Mar. 22, 1868, concerns a reprimand received by Bowman for his dispatch of a ship without its full freight; and relates the incident to the current conflict over control of the corporation. The fourth letter (2 p.), dated Nov. 9, 1868, notifies and advises Bowman of an impending transfer from Hong Kong to Shanghai.
