This subseries covers the gubernatorial administrations of four Alabama governors. The records of the four administrations have been interfiled, which makes it impossible to separate them. These records are a part of the administrative files, but they have been maintained as a distinct subseries. The subseries reflects the governors' involvement in the Alabama Development Office and Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. These offices were involved in promotion of economic and social development throughout the state of Alabama in such areas as community services and urban and industrial development. The subseries arrangement starts out in alphabetical order, then switches to numerical; alphabetical thereunder, and descending chronologically thereunder. This subseries consists of recommendation letters on behalf of numerous constituents for filling vacant positions, approval of appointments, recommendations concerning of state lands for development, leasing of state lands, approval of proposed governmental grants and waivers of the 30-day waiting period for grants. The subseries includes correspondence concerning urban development projects and proposals for urban renewal andplanning, education, recreation, health, child care, new sources of energy, and small businesses.
