Hearings files, 1935-1974.

These records maintain legal and general information regarding state lawsuits; i.e., beauty parlor licenses and shipping point inspection fees. They also contain public hearings on state electrification and improvement projects and the sale of revenue bonds. The Legal Division kept some legal records for state and federal agencies involved in Alabama projects in the 1930s. Those agencies included the Alabama Rural Electrification Authority, the Alabama Planning Board, the United States Federal Emergency Relief, and the Public Works Administration. The majority of these hearings concern proposed development, consolidation, additions and changes for rural electrification projects and public housing and utility authority projects for Alabama. These hearings were administered by the Dept. of Finance and primarily were based on the Rural Electrification Act of 1936. Types of records include agreements, briefs, correspondence, decisions, maps and drawings, minutes, mortgage notes, petitions, permits and reports.
