Institutional services files, 1968-1970 [state publication].

This series contains inventories and reports relating to institutional library services and a collection of poems and prose written by inmates of Julia Tutwiler Prison. The agency contracted with the Rehabilitation Research Foundation to inventory library facilities in state correctional institutions, hospitals, convalescent homes, special education centers, vocational rehabilitation centers, and institutions approved by Pensions and Security, for the purpose of establishing or improving the quality of service. The inventory reports on the survey and findings. Also included are a consultant's report on state library services to correctional institutions by Robert J. Brooks of Southern Illinois University and Annual Programs of the State Plan under the Library Services and Construction Act covering correctional institutions, the Institute for the Deaf and Blind, and the Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. The collection of poems and prose was a writing project by the agency. The publication also summarizes the history of the agency's involvement with the prison. Also present is a booklet which describes out-reach services of public libraries in the state. The series documents the role of the Library Service in planning, promoting, and developing library services for all citizens.
