The miscellaneous publications, written to heighten public awareness and understanding, reflect prominent issues present during each administration. The Child Abuse Prevention Handbook defines child abuse, identifies abusers, suggests treatment, and discusses legal aspects, professional responsibilities, and community involvement. The appendix includes an abuse/neglect reporting form to the State Department of Pensions and Security, a Department of Pensions and Security directory, and criminal code and child pornography statutes. The State Department of Pensions and Security and the California Crime Prevention Center assisted in the preparation of the report. Surface Mining in Alabama describes the past and present impact of coal surface mining and recommends ways to change the laws which regulate surface mining. Included topics are statistics, the environmental impact, current land reclamation and principles of good reclamation, options for the future, and sources of reference. Earl Bailey prepared the report, published by the Alabama Environmental Quality Association.
