Diary, 1 January 1865-31 December 1865.

Calvin Irish's diary is one of the slimmest of Civil War diaries. Covering the last calendar year of the war, Irish typically writes only thebriefest of entries, noting when he has written his wife (and, as frequently, when he has not received a letter from her) and when and how far his regiment has marched. He occasionally remarks upon the weather or events of the war (e.g., the surrender of Lee and Johnston, though not Lincoln's assassination). His entries from the last days of the war in Virginia convey more concern for the failing health of his wife than anything else.
