Five typed manuscripts detailing George Granville Barnum's 1877 trip to Crookston, Minnesota at the height of the grasshopper infestation, the beginnings of the Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad, and his 1909 trip to China, including a visit to the Great Wall. A cover letter from Barnum to Grace L. Nute, Minnesota Historical Society, recounts his Civil War experiences and his work as the Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad pay master. Granville settled in Duluth, Minnesota where he was involved in the steamboat and grain businesses.
