John Breathitt, Kentucky's eleventh governor, was elected in 1832. He was the only Jacksonian Democrat elected governor between 1828 and 1850, and was the second Kentucky governor to die in office. John Breathitt was born September 9, 1786 in New London, Virginia. In 1805 the family moved to Kentucky and settled in Russellville in Logan County. The John Breathitt that kept this journal is most likely the sameperson who became Kentucky's governor in 1832. His death in 1834 made him the second of the Commonweath's governors to die in office. Born in Virginia in 1786, his family moved to Logan County (part of which became Christian County), Kentucky, around 1800.
