The papers consist of correspondence, subject files, writings, and artifacts which document the professional career of Harvey Williams Cushing. The papers highlight Cushing's years on the staff of the Harvard Medical School and Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. The papers also document his activities in various professional organizations, his research and writing, particularly on brain tumors and on Sir William Osler, and his book collecting.
