Executive orders for transferring prisoners to reform school, 1931-1933.

The governor maintains general superintendance and control over the convict department and over all matters relating to convicts. (Ala. Code, 3591, p. 3600 [1928]). In this capacity he approves the transfer of convicts under the age of 18 to a reformatory. "Convicts under eighteen years of age may be sentenced to a term in the reformatory...." (Ala. Code, 3689, p. 3680 [1928]). This series consists of executive orders paroling a convict into the custody of the Alabama Reform School. Information available on the records includes the convict's name, county, crime, date convicted, sentence, a statement approving the transfer of custody, the governor's signature, the date and the attesting mark of the secretary of state. These records were created by Governor Benjamin M. Miller (1931-1935) upon the recommendation of the Board of Administration (1923-1935).
