Commitment receipt book, 1975-1986.

The commitment receipt book is a record of the receipts issued when prisoners are committed to state mental institutions by the Governor. Each receipt stub lists the following information: date of commitment, name of the individual committed, county where incarcerated, date of conviction, crime jailed for, sentence, and institution where individual was placed. The county probate judge and a committee decide on the sanity of the prisoners and the Governor approves or disapproves their decision.
