Records of five grant programs administered by the section. The applications for federal assistance (1968-1978) include correspondence, applications, and related records covering such projects as development of family education programs through library services; a Bemidji State University special service project; an educational needs assessment of handicapped Indian children in Minnesota; a community development program for Indian adults; the Pine Point secondary school; computer assisted instruction in an alternative school reflective of Native American culture; the Indian adult basic education program; special school programs at Morton, Andersen Elementary in Minneapolis, and South Koochiching; and an Ojibwe oriented pre-school. The Title IV/Title V records document federal grants given under the Indian Education Act of 1988 (Public Law 92-318) to improve educational opportunities for Indian children and adults. They include count/entitlement lists, a Red Lake Indian Reservation needs assessment report (1989), and a grant application and program evaluation for Independent School District No. 94, Cloquet (1988). The files of the Consortium of States to Upgrade Indian Education through State Departments of Education detail a consortium of thirteen states, funded through Public Law 98-10, Title V-A, organized to develop communication and resources to strengthen Indian education units in the state educational agencies. They include reports, correspondence, meeting minutes, and grant proposals and summaries. The American Indian Language and Culture Education (AILCE) Program files document a grant program to assist school districts that provide American Indian language and culture educational programs. They include minutes, pilot project materials, project updates and overviews, grant reader's meeting files, and grant award agreements. The Post Secondary Preparation Program (PSPP) grant proposals and award files also document a grant program that assists school districts. They include lists of proposals, instructions on writing, proposals from individual schools, funding decisions with appeals, project list and overview, and grant award agreements.
