IJC International Garrison Diversion Study Board files, 1957, 1973-1984.

Files documenting the PCA's role as a member of the International Joint Commission's International Garrison Diversion Study Board. The Garrison Diversion Unit (GDU) was a project begun in 1965 to divert water from the Missouri River drainage basin into the Hudson Bay drainage basin, with the purpose of irrigating 250,000 acres of North Dakota farmland. Due to numerous Canadian and American protests over the environmental soundness of the project, in 1975 the two governments asked the IJC to study the problem. It, in turn, appointed the Study Board to do an in-depth investigation.
