Abishai W. Roberts was an attorney of Lake Providence, Louisiana. He served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War and was a prisoner of war at Johnson Island Prison, Sandusky Bay, Ohio. Roberts was married to Lucy Smith, daughter of Aurelia Woodward and step-daughter of John S. Woodward. Lucy and her sister, Josephine, were educated at a school in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
