These books contain transcripts of three official letters to and from Governor John J. Crittenden during his term in office. Included are one letter from the governor to Major General William Orlando Butler commending the general for his bravery during the Battle of Monterey, and informing him that a sword would be presented to him as a symbol of gratitude; a response from General Butler acknowledging the receipt of the sword; and a letter from the governor to two candidates from Casey County who received an equal number of votes in the election for the representative from that county to the Consitutional Convention, asking that they both request a writ for a new election to break the tie.
