William Titus Birdsall diary : ms, 1849 Mar. 8-Sept. 16.

Leather-bound, ledger-style journal of Birdsall's voyage with his brother, Charles Henry, from New York to San Francisco via Cape Horn aboard the ship Loo Choo. Describes fellow passengers, details about life aboard ship, and ports of call, including Rio de Janeiro. The diary is prefaced by an introductory note to his mother, apparently written later than the diary entries, and post-scripted with an eight-page entry describing Birdsall's trip to the gold diggings, and a brief description of placer mining there.
