Letters, 1848-1850.

Letters, 1848 July 28 and 1850 July 29. The first is from Protestant Episcopal Bishop N.H. Cobb, in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa Co., Ala., to Hale, at Geneva College in Geneva, N.Y. In it is discussed a recommendation of a young man, unnamed, that Hale made to Cobbs. The second letter is from James H. Fisher, near Selma, Dallas Co., Ala., to Hale, at Geneva College. In this letter Fisher discussed his receipt of the A.M. degree from Geneva College, his new appointment to teach at the church school, unnamed, at Tuscaloosa, his present job of tutoring the sons of the planter C.H. Cleveland, the sickness at the plantation, the presence of cotton worms, and the "sullen gloom" in Ala. caused by the national political crisis over slavery.
