U.S. St. Stephen's Land Office - Receiver's list of land affected by the Relief Act of 1821, 1821.

The Relief Act of 1821 allowed a debtor to give up part of his land to complete payment on the rest or to extend the time of credit. District land office Receivers kept a list of land affected by the act. Arranged by date, each entry contains the name of the purchaser, the receipt number, the location of land relinquished, the location of land fully paid and not relinquished and the location of lands on further credit. These records document the administration of the Relief Act of 1821 and illustrate the difficulties settlers encountered attempting to obtain and keep land.
