Lois K. Gordon was art history student at Lone Mountain College at the time she wrote the Henry Alexander paper. Henry Alexander was a genre painter who worked in San Francisco and in New York City, after 1887. According to obituaries, he committed suicide there on May 15, 1894. Painter of primarily of genre scenes, also some lost cityscapes, and still-lifes; San Francisco, California, and New York, N.Y., after 1887. The San Francisco earthquake destroyed many of Alexander's paintings and records. He committed suicide in New York on May 15, 1894. Death date also cited as 1895.
