This sermon was preached by W. Legg on March 19, 1854, the Sunday prior to the burial of Sir Thomas Noon Talfourd, a noted author, judge, and member of the House of Commons. The biblical text for the sermon is Luke 12:40. In addition to commenting on Talfourd's life and untimely death, Legg addresses the subject of the second coming of Christ.
