Service Citizens of Delaware records document its 1918 organization and the survey of state schools which defined Pierre S. du Pont's educational agenda. Files document the state of education in Delaware, sources of financial support for the schools, teacher salaries and pensions, and descriptions of physical facilities. Correspondence and annual reports (1918-1927) describe Pierre S. du Pont's reform proposal. There is also substantial material on the Americanization program and the ways in which it attempted to shape school curricula in order to acculturate the immigrant population and instill an incentive-based work ethic. Service Citizen's adult education and public health programs are described in the records as is the school construction program of the Delaware School Auxiliary Association. There are also extensive records and photographic files documenting the building program that was put in place for the black schools.
