Interview conducted by Alan Cherry as part of the LDS Afro-American Oral History Project by the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University on 2 June 1987. Watley talks about growing up in Birmingham, Alabama during the 1950s and the effects of the Civil Rights movement on his life. He describes his marriage to a white Mormon and her experience returning to the Mormon Church. He explains his conversion to the Mormon faith and its influences on his life. He tells abouth the future for black Americans in the Mormon Church.
