The History Department of the University of Pennsylvania provides a Senior Honors program for undergraduate history majors. Each year about twenty percent of its history students are accepted for this three-semester program. Each student takes a Junior Honors Seminar followed by two semesters of independent research and writing in the Senior year. In 1919 Edward Bushnell was appointed publicity agent for the University of Pennsylvania. His appointment began a long and expanding effort at public relations at the University. In 1954 the Department of Public Relations expanded its work to include two new units, Motion Picture Services and the Office of Radio and Television.
