Proclamations, commendations and appreciations, 1959-1974.

This series consists of proclamations made by the governor. The proclamations concern declarations of special days, commendations for meritorious or special services and congratulatory statements. All of the proclamations are attested by the Secretary of State and embossed with the state seal. This series also contains two different forms of proclamations: commendations and appreciations. These are more specialized forms of proclamations which are filed separately. Correspondence for/or against a specific proclamation topic is also included in this series. This series contains proclamations issued by the following gubernatorial administrations: John Patterson (1959-1963), George C. Wallace (1963-1967), Lurleen B. Wallace (1967-1968), Albert P. Brewer (1968-1971), and George C. Wallace (1971-1975).

Lurleen Burns Wallace (born Lurleen Brigham Burns; September 19, 1926 – May 7, 1968) was the 46th governor of Alabama for fifteen months from January 1967 until her death in May 1968. She was the first wife of Alabama governor George Wallace, whom she succeeded as governor because the Alabama constitution forbade consecutive terms.
