This series consists of a bound volume containing copies of general and special orders of the governor, correspondence of the adjutant general, and pardon and parole records of the governor. The first seven pages of the book consist of copies of general and special orders, issued by Governor A.B. Moore (1857-1861), dated 1860 Jan. 2 - 1861 Jan. 8, regarding the delivery of arms, the occupation of forts, and the reinforcement of fortifications in the state. A clipping of a printed letter from the U.S. Secretary of War to commandants of camps of instruction is also included. Copies of correspondence, dated 1863 July 9 - 1863 Aug. 9, from Adjutant General George Goldthwaite concerning the movement of troops within the state to protect the citizens, the impressement of slaves into military service, the raising of new troops, exemption from service, and obtaining supplies occupy pages 8-20. Originally the volume functioned as a pardon and parole record, and the eight entries dated 1835 are located under the Franklin, Henry, Lauderdale, Limestone, Monroe, Walker, and Wilcox county headings. At the rear of the volume is a list of three sums drawn from the contingency fund by the executive department on 1836 Jan. 12 and 13, and a copy of a dispatch from Governor Joseph E. Brown of Georgia regarding orders from Georgia troops to occupy Ft. Pulaski. These records were created during the administrations of Governors Clement Comer Clay (1835-1837), Andrew Barry Moore (1857-1861), and John Gill Shorter (1861-1863). These records cover the years 1835, 1836, 1860 Jan. - 1861, and 1863 July - Aug.
