R.F. Putnam diary: ms, 1862 April 18-1876 June 6.

Diary records Putnam's voyage to California in 1863, via the Isthmus of Panama to San Francisco, and describes a week long stay in the city, including a visit to a Chinese temple. The bulk of the diary records social events and religious activities relating to Putnam's service as rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church from 1863-1866, and various parishes in Grass Valley, Calif. Also included are descriptions of various events, people and locations of interest around Grass Valley, including Gold Hill Mine and local Native American peoples. Includes "Clergymen of California," a list of clergymen in the Diocese of California.
