Consists of papers pertaining to Carpenter's career as a music educator, including biographical material, correspondence, programs, announcements, publications containing articles written by and about Carpenter, newspaper clippings, reports, speeches by Carpenter, and ephemera. Includes accounts of several musical pageants orchestrated by Carpenter, material on the planning and reconstruction of public schools after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire, as well as Madam Luisa Tetrazzini's historic visit to San Francisco in 1907. Also includes sheet music, songbooks, scrapbooks, workbooks, notebooks, a book on music and dance in Calif. and the West, and other items.
