State Docks files, 1927-1947.

This series consists of correspondence, contracts, reports and other records that pertain to the establishment of the state docks system throughout the state. The Alabama State Docks Commission (1923-1939) and the Alabama Dept. of Docks and Terminals (1939-1951) were the state agencies responsible for maintaining this system during the time period covered by these records. Although the port of Mobile received most of the attention, ports on various Alabama rivers are included in the commission's jurisdiction. The records contain information on the state boat, "Dixie"; the Foreign Trade Zone; the Pan-American Committee; facilities plans; a case study on the development of the state docks; and the State Docks Economic Survey. The minutes of the State Docks Advisory Board meetings are also included in this series. The records began during the first administration of Bibb Graves and continued through the first term of James E. Folsom.
