The Elections and Registration Division is responsible for the carrying out the various duties of the Office of Secretary of State relating to elections. The Alabama Fair Campaign Practices Act (Ala. Acts, 873, p. 397 [1988]) reguires candidates for all state elective offices (except local ones) and all political committees to file disclosure reports with the Elections and Registration Division at specified times in an election year. Office holders must file a disclosure report annually, even in non-election years. This series consists of Appointment of Principal Campaign Committee reports, summaries of Contributions and Expenditures accompanied by Statements of Contributions and Statements of Expenditures, and Statements of Dissolution of Political Committees or Principal Campaign Committees. Files of political action committees that are not affiliated with a candidate file a Statement of Organization of Political Committee instead of an appointment of Principal Campaign Committee report. Information available in these files includes names of campaign committee members, sources and amounts of all contributions over 100 dollars, and all campaign expenditures over 100 dollars. The Elections and Registration Division keeps these reports and makes copies available for public inspection. This record series also includes the filings which were required under the previous Corrupt Practice Law (Ala. Code, 17-22-1 through 17-22-15 [1975]). Campaign financial records created prior to 1982 may also be interfiled with the Election files series.
