Papers, 1657-1846.

This collection contains legal papers from the law office of John Chambers as well as some papers from his successor, Peter Augustus Jay. These papers include deeds, patents, letters, court minutes, and briefs. Most of the papers were created by Chambers and several are in Dutch. The papers from Peter Jay's period (1775-1846) include some documents authored by Aaron Burr, a frequent opponent of Jay.

A Founding Father, he served as the third vice president of the United States during President Thomas Jefferson's first term from 1801 to 1805.
