Preston Wilcox manuscripts, 1965-1968.

The Preston Wilcox Manuscripts consists of texts of speeches, papers, articles, and bibliographies reflecting Wilcox's endeavors as a community organizer and activist among African Americans in New York City. The subjects of his writings are public education and community organization in the ghetto. The collection includes articles written by others that Wilcox used in his course at Columbia Teachers College. Additionally, there are proposals that discuss plans for the I.S. 201 Complex Community Education Center to serve residents of selected disadvantaged areas with community participation and coordination of resources. Bibliographies pertaining to community control of the New York City and Washington, D.C. school systems complete the collection.
