Baron Edward de Lebzeltern-Collenbach was a member of the aristocratic Lebzeltern family of the Austrian Empire. His father, Francis, and uncle Louis were associates of Prince Metternich. Edward entered the diplomatic service in 1835 in London and then was transferred in 1844 to the Austrian legation in St. Petersburg, Russia.
