Burma Campaign diary and scrapbook, 1882-1892 (bulk 1886-1888).

The diary covers the dates 25 Sept. 1886-4 Feb. 1888. The 3rd Hyderabad Contingent under Col. Fitzgerald arrived in Burma in the early part of October, 1886, and commenced operations against the numerous dacoit bands. The regiment was divided into 4 squadrons which operated all over the Shwebo and Ye-u districts, and a portion of the Wuntho State. The regiment served 14 months in Burma. The scrapbook includes press clippings, correspondence, and photographs of Burma and covers the period from 1882 to 1892. Correspondents include: Fitzgerald; Sir Charles Bernard, Chief Commissioner for Burma; Col. F.B. Middleton; Lt. Dick Wapshare of the 4th Cavalry, Lt. D.S. Buist, of the 2nd Infantry Hyderabad Contingent; T.J. Burnett of the Bombay Gazette; and E.L. Wright, of the 2nd Cavalry. Included is General White's speech to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Cavalry at Mandalay 24 Oct. 1886. Middleton's letter includes a list of prisoners in his camp and a list of arms captured. The 30 photographs include scenes of Shwebo and Mandalay. Numerous photos of King Theebaw and his palace.
