Letter requesting supplies, 1777 December 7.

Letter written to Boston begging for a provision of clothing to be sent for his troops who are in dire need. He asks that his case be put before General Heath. He and his men killed and wounded 1000 British soldiers and took Lord Cornwallis and 600 men as prisoners. He also mentions an incident concerning storage of gunpowder. Written at Albany, N.Y.

In response to the expansion of the Continental Army the number of staff was increased and reorganized in 1776. Changes included the creation of a new unit to supplement George Washington's personal staff. This special unit, the Commander in Chief's Guard, was formed on March 12, 1776 with Captain Caleb Gibbs (formerly adjutant of the 14th Continental Regiment and appointed Aid to Major General Greene) as commander.
