Records, 1863-1966 (bulk 1892-1951).

The records of the James Watson & Sons Co. consist primarily of account books and property records. The former cover most of the life of the partnership down to 1925. The latter are mostly deeds, leases and bills from the city Street & Sewer Dept. The successor corporation is represented by the minute book, tax returns, stock certificates and financial statements. James Watson is represented by a bank book and a copy of his will. On the whole, the records are typical of many small businesses and are not that informative in the matter of day-to-day operations. There are a few more interesting pieces, such as an advertisement for trailers built by the company, decorative letterheads, and time books for employees (1932-1937). There is also a copy of THE GARIBALDI SONG BOOK, printed in Glasgow, which belonged to James Watson. The Garibaldi title notwithstanding, many of the songs of liberty deal with Scotland.
