The writer was the father of E. Allen and Hosea B. Grosh or Grosch, involved in the discovery of the Comstock Lode. The letters concern the claims of the elder Grosh, the Frank Mining Company of California, the Utah Enterprise, and the Grosch Consolidated Mining Company to Comstock ores, and Grosh's dealings with Benjamin R. Nickerson. Attached are copies of letters from E. Allen Grosh to P.J. Hoover, Blind Ravine, Mid. Am. River, December 12, 1857, and from W.J. Harrison to Hoover, Last Chance, Placer County, California, December 20, 1857, concerning Allen's death.
